With roughly half of IRR coming from operational value creation (not counting resulting multiple expansion), designing a robust but pragmatic value creation plan is top priority - as is making sure it stays on track. Say you have a handful of promising targets left after a thorough screening, but not yet ready to commit to the full process. A pre-DD gives you an impartial expert judgment whether a target could be interesting (and why) after one-to-two weeks.
